GLEP Endorses 19 Candidates in 2016 House Campaigns

Leading education advocacy group makes additional campaign endorsements

 Lansing, MI – The Great Lakes Education Project (GLEP) today announced endorsements for candidates in 19 races for the Michigan House of Representatives in 2016.

“We’re confident these candidates will be forceful advocates for children in the legislature, and we’re pleased to endorse and support their campaigns,” said Gary Naeyaert, GLEP Executive Director.  Candidates endorsed today by GLEP include the following:

  • District #21: Derek Moss (Canton)
  • District #23: Bob Howey (Trenton)
  • District #24: Steve Marino (Harrison Township)
  • District #26: Randy LeVasseur (Royal Oak)
  • District #30: Diana Farrington (Utica)
  • District #32: Pamela Hornberger (Chesterfield Township)
  • District #33: Colleen Carl (Armada Township)
  • District #46: Joe Kent (Addison Township)
  • District #57: Bronna Kahle (Adrian Township)
  • District #66: Beth Griffin (Mattawan)
  • District #70: James Lower (Cedar Lake)
  • District #72: Ryan Gallogly (Kentwood)
  • District #76: Casey O’Neill (Grand Rapids)
  • District #87: Julie Calley (Portland)
  • District #89: Jim Lilly (Park Township)
  • District #97: Jason Wentworth (Evart)

“We urge voters to examine past records and positions on key issues to make the important decisions about which candidates to support,” said Beth DeShone, GLEP Advocacy Director.

GLEP’s endorsement process includes past voting records, personCampaign-2016.2al interviews and results from an extensive candidate questionnaire. Priority issues for GLEP include school choice and early literacy, while endorsed candidates may hold a variety of positions on policy issues such as K-12 funding, curriculum standards, student assessments, etc.

Today’s announcement of 19 candidate endorsements is in addition to the 25 incumbent endorsements made by GLEP on June 21, resulting in 44 endorsed candidates so far in 2016.
